Poppies and Sailboats is a little bit special as it came from my imagination and includes some gorgeously experimental mark-making and texture. Despite growing up inland, I've always been drawn to the coast. The line between solid land and infinite ocean is endlessly fascinating and constantly changing whether it's the dramatic movement of estuary and sand or the imperceptible shift of rock and cliff.
In this piece, I daydreamed of England and the white cliffs of Dover, of red poppies against the complimentary colour green and little sailboats buffeted by the coastal winds. It's a scene of whimsy and calm with lush greens and light summer skies.
